Our new adapted homes in Birchgrove have been completed

Mr and Mrs Jones at their new houseWe've recently completed three new bungalows in Birchgrove that are suitable for people with disabilities.

The three homes were built by local developers Growbrick Holdings in Glanbran Close, Birchgrove and have all been quickly let to families who are currently living in unsuitable accommodation.

Mr & Mrs Jones, who previously lived in Pontardawe, needed a home with level access due to Mr Jones’ reduced mobility, the configuration of their previous home would have meant the installation of an exterior lift.

Mrs Jones said "Our old house had very steep steps outside making it hard to get to, it got increasingly difficult for my husband to get in and out of the house and it would have cost a fortune to install a lift. Our new home will make our lives so much easier and I used to live in Birchgrove so I’m happy to be back and surrounded by old friends."

Another of the bungalows has been designed with a level access wet room and adjustable height worktops to the kitchen. This property has been let via the ADAPT Housing Register which is a central waiting list within Swansea for people with disabilities who require a high level of adaptations in their accommodation.

Andrew Vye, our Director of Housing said "This development has enabled us to move two of our tenants into more suitable accommodation and in doing so considerably improve their quality of life.  We’ve also been able to work in partnership with ADAPT and house a family who’ve been waiting for a suitable adapted home. Working with ADAPT enables us to fairly allocate the adapted properties that exist in Swansea."
